Diverse Book Finder

A wonderful tool to sort diverse books, principally by race or ethnic category. I have drawn on their categories describing the position of the diverse character in the type narrative. The book categories they use are:

“Any child,” meaning that the main character could be substituted for anyone, typically middle class.

“Beautiful life,” basically a day in the life of x culture,

“Biography,” story of just one person

“Cross Group,” interactions across racial or religious boundaries

“Folklore,” different myths and legends from various cultures

“Incidental,” these are books that just happen to have diverse characters somewhere in the background. Often these are books with a diverse cast but no main character.

“Informational,” books that set out to explain diversity without having a plot.

“Oppression,” books that center around a narrative of discrimination, such as slavery

“Race/Culture Concepts.” books that focus on one cultural practice, such as a book explaining ramadan.
